In journalism school, I was called out for having too much fluff in my writing. I wanted to express myself, showcase the color of a story; professors wanted me to chase the lead, provide the facts in black and white.

After twenty years of marketing everything from $8 facial cleansers to $3500 double-ply cashmere coats, I have come full circle. I am a writer. There is still fluff, ahem self-expression, in my written work but I have learned that even the richest tale often resembles my minimalist wardrobe – it’s black and white.
